Documents, which are the part that can stop you

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office records that your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay and that you must have a ticket for return or onward travel. If you are flying in, visitors must complete a Bermuda arrival card; if you arrive on a cruise ship you do not.

Carry proof of the onward ticket in a form you can show without a data connection. Our entry requirements guide covers the rest.

Insurance is luggage here

Pack the policy document. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office records that medication and medical treatment in Bermuda are very expensive and that serious cases are usually referred to either Baltimore or Boston in the USA. A policy that does not cover medical costs in the United States, or that does not cover repatriation by air ambulance, leaves the largest single exposure of the trip uncovered.

Medication

The same record states that most types of medication are readily available in Bermuda, including UK brands. Bring your own prescription supply for the trip, and bring the prescription. You will not be stuck without ordinary pharmacy items, but you will pay a great deal for them.

Things that will cause you a real problem

Bermuda's weapons law is wider than most visitors expect. The record specifically names ammunition, including empty magazines. An item that is legal, unremarkable and completely harmless at home can be an offense in a Bermudian bag, and an empty magazine in a range bag is exactly the sort of thing that travels by accident.

Drug offenses carry prison sentences of up to 25 years. Bermuda is a separate legal jurisdiction to the United Kingdom and has its own laws, so nothing about a British passport changes how any of this applies.

One clothing rule that is actually a law

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office records that it is illegal for anyone to be topless in public. Pack accordingly. This applies to everyone and it is not a beach-only rule.

Getting around shapes what you carry

Tourists are not permitted to drive cars in Bermuda, so you are packing for buses, ferries, taxis and, for some visitors, a scooter. That argues for a bag you can carry up a step and hold on your lap rather than one you would wheel from a rental counter. The record also warns of theft of unattended baggage and belongings, including from rental scooters, which makes the under-seat storage on a scooter the wrong place for anything you would mind losing. The sea

If swimming is part of the plan, note that most people in Bermuda do not swim in the sea until after Bermuda Day in late May and that there are strong rip currents in many places across Bermuda. Both come from the official record, and both are better packing advice than a water temperature nobody published.

What this list does not contain

No layer counts, no month-by-month clothing table and no rain gear recommendation keyed to a season, because no source in this register publishes a temperature or a rainfall figure for Bermuda. A packing list built on invented averages is worse than a short one built on the record.
