Bermuda Visa and Entry Requirements

The passport rule, which is not the regional one

Almost every destination a traveler reads about before this one asks for a passport valid well beyond the trip. Bermuda does not. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office records that your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay.

That is a materially easier rule, and it is exactly the kind of fact that gets carried across from a neighbor and stated wrongly. It is also the kind of fact worth checking against the current official page on the day you book, because entry rules are set and enforced by the authorities in Bermuda and can change without a guide noticing.

How long you may stay, and why the wording matters

The same record states that a British citizen passport holder can visit without a visa for up to 180 days in any 12-month period.

Read the second half of that sentence as carefully as the first. It is not a single uninterrupted 180 days. It is a rolling allowance measured across the preceding year, so two long trips inside twelve months draw on the same budget. Anyone planning repeat visits, a seasonal stay or a split trip needs to count across the year rather than across the booking.

British citizen passport holders are who the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office writes for, so check your own nationality's position on the official page rather than assuming this applies to you.

The ticket the authorities expect to see

The record is explicit: you must have a ticket for return or onward travel. This is routinely ignored until it is not, and it is the easiest of these requirements to satisfy before you leave and the hardest to satisfy at a desk.

The arrival card, and who does not need one

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office records that visitors must complete a Bermuda arrival card, and that you do not have to complete a card if you arrive on a cruise ship.

That second clause is the useful one, because a large share of visitors to Bermuda arrive exactly that way. If you are sailing in, this requirement is not yours. If you are flying, it is.

Money you are carrying

If you intend to work

The rule is stated in advance of arrival, not on it: you must get a job offer and work permit before you enter the country. There is no route that begins with arriving as a visitor and arranging it afterward.
