The Best Time to Visit Bermuda

The one date two governments agree on

Most seasonal travel writing is assembled from averages nobody can trace. This page has something better. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office records that most people in Bermuda do not swim in the sea until after Bermuda Day in late May. Independently, the Government of Bermuda records that Bermuda Day is celebrated on the fourth Friday in May and treats it as the opening of the summer.

Two official bodies, writing for different reasons, landing on the same week. That is the firmest seasonal fact in this guide, and it answers the question most visitors are actually asking. If getting into the water matters to you, late May is the hinge. Before it, the sea is something you look at.

The hurricane season, and what a season is

The same Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office record states that the hurricane season in Bermuda normally runs from June to November. Those dates are published by a government, which is why they are the only other seasonal range on this page.

A season is a window in which storms form. It is not a forecast, and it does not promise that a week inside it will be disrupted or that a week outside it cannot be. What it tells you is practical: it marks the months in which travel insurance covering disruption earns its cost, in which a flexible booking is worth what it adds, and in which you read the current official advice before you fly rather than after.

Read that alongside the paragraph above and the shape of the year becomes clear. The swimming season opens at the end of May; the storm window opens in June. They overlap almost exactly, and no honest guide can hand you a month that is both warmest and safest.

What Bermuda Day itself puts in the calendar

Bermuda Day is not only a marker. The Government of Bermuda records that the first Bermuda Day Parade was held in 1979, and that the day carries Gombey troupes and a half-marathon derby. Where Bermuda sits, because it changes the answer

Bermuda is in the North Atlantic, not the Caribbean. It appears in the Caribbean Islands section of this site because that is where a reader looks for it, and this guide keeps that filing. But the geography is real and it matters to timing: a seasonal expectation carried over from a Caribbean island will not describe Bermuda's year, and nothing on this page is borrowed from one.

What this guide will not tell you

It publishes no monthly temperature, no rainfall figure and no sea temperature, because no source in this guide's register states one.
