Best Time to Visit the United Arab Emirates

The short version

November to March. This is an editorial recommendation rather than a figure we can cite, and we say so: nothing read for this guide publishes month-by-month temperature for the UAE. What is certain is that the three World Heritage sites are all outdoors and mostly unshaded, and that the season decides whether they are a morning or twenty minutes.

The cool season

Warm days, pleasant evenings, and the whole outdoor life of the country switched on: beaches, desert camps, the corniches, outdoor dining and the events calendar. It is also the expensive season and the busy one, and the weeks around New Year are the peak of both.

What summer actually means

Not a hotter version of the same trip. It means the outdoor half moves to early morning and after dark and the middle of the day belongs to indoor space, of which this country has an extraordinary amount and much of it genuinely good. Museums, galleries, malls, aquariums and indoor ski slopes are not a fallback here, they are a large part of what the place built. A summer trip is a real trip; it is simply a different one, and it is much cheaper.

The mountains and the east coast

Fujairah and the Hajar mountains, where Wadi Wurayah is, are cooler than the coast and are the part of the country that most rewards the shoulder months. Inland at Al Ain it is hotter than the coast by day and cooler at night.

The calendar that moves

Ramadan and the two Eids run on the lunar calendar and shift earlier against your own by about eleven days each year. Hours change, daytime eating and drinking in public are restricted, and the evenings become the centre of the day. See festivals and celebrations.
