Money in the Turks and Caicos

The currency is the US dollar

The Turks and Caicos Islands uses the US dollar. There is no separate local currency to change into, no local exchange rate to track and no conversion to do in your head at a till.

For a traveler arriving from the United States this is close to frictionless. For everyone else the exchange decision is made at home, in your own currency against the US dollar, and it is made once.

⚠ It is worth saying plainly because the assumption runs the other way. British Overseas Territories in this region do not share a currency: the Cayman Islands, for instance, issues its own dollar. Carrying that expectation here produces a search for something that does not exist.

What you may be asked to show at the border

Border officials may ask to see a return or onward ticket. That is an entry requirement rather than a money one, but it lands in the same part of the trip and it is a document rather than a screenshot. Our entry requirements guide covers the rest.

What this guide deliberately does not give you

No prices. This cluster holds no source that publishes what things cost in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and a set of invented sample prices is the least useful thing a travel guide can carry: specific enough to be trusted, unsourced enough to be wrong, and stale within a year.

Budget from current quotes for the things you have actually booked, and treat any general daily figure you find elsewhere as an estimate rather than a fact.

One practical consequence of the islands being many

More than 40 islands and cays make up the territory, and services are not evenly spread across them. A plan that includes a smaller cay is a plan that should not assume a card terminal or a cash machine is nearby. That is a question for the specific property or operator, and it is a better question asked before departure than on arrival.
