Qatar Visa and Entry Requirements

The short version

You can get a tourist visa on arrival if you are travelling on a full British Citizen passport. Your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date you arrive, and you will need health insurance from an approved provider. Entry terms differ by passport, so confirm your own rather than assuming this transfers.

The visa itself

The visa waiver issued at the border runs for 30 days. If you need longer you must extend it before it expires, through the Qatar Ministry of Interior. There is no grace period worth relying on, and an extension applied for after expiry is a different and worse conversation. If you hold another type of British passport, or you are travelling for a purpose other than tourism, the route is different and you should check it in advance.

Passport validity, counted from the right date

Six months, measured from the day you arrive. Not from the day you booked, and not from the day you leave. This is the most common reason a traveller is turned back at check-in for a Gulf destination, and it is entirely avoidable. A passport reported lost or stolen will not be accepted even if you subsequently find it.

Health insurance is mandatory

Visitors need health insurance from a provider approved by Qatar, and the standard premium is 50 riyals per person per month. It is a real requirement rather than a recommendation, and it is separate from any travel insurance you already hold. Arrange it before you fly.

Money and goods you carry in

If you are taking money, precious metals or gems worth more than 50,000 riyals into Qatar you must complete a declaration form. See currency and money for how payment actually works once you are there.
