The quick answer
Namibia's Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security sets entry requirements, and the Namibia Tourism Board publishes visitor-facing visa, border post and health information at visitnamibia.com.na. Confirm your own position with them before you book.
⚠ An honest note about sources
At the time this page was written, the Namibian government's own web presence was largely unreachable from outside the country: gov.na and the immigration ministry's site both failed to respond, and the tourism board's long-standing address namibiatourism.com.na is dead while its current site visitnamibia.com.na works.
We are telling you that rather than quietly citing whatever answered, because it changes what you should do: if you cannot reach an official Namibian source, use your own government's travel advisory and confirm with your airline at check-in, and treat third-party visa websites with suspicion. Several that rank well are commercial intermediaries, not authorities.
Why this page names no fees, categories or validity periods
They change, and they change in ways that matter at a check-in desk. A page that prints them is helpful for a while and then becomes a liability. What follows is the shape of the system and where to confirm the detail.
The shape of the system
Namibia has long admitted nationals of many countries visa-free for short tourist visits, and has been moving toward an online application service for those who need a visa. Whether your passport needs one on your travel dates is exactly the thing to confirm at source.
What to have ready
- A passport with ample remaining validity and blank pages — give yourself margin rather than meeting a minimum exactly.
- Onward or return travel details, and the address of your first night.
- Proof of sufficient funds if asked.
- Any health documentation your routing requires — yellow fever rules depend on the countries you have transited, not only on your destination.
⚠ Traveling with children
Southern African countries have at various times required additional documentation for minors — typically an unabridged birth certificate showing both parents, and consent from any parent not traveling. Requirements have changed more than once across the region and differ by country and border post. If anyone under 18 is in the party, check the current position for every country on your itinerary well before you fly. This catches families out more than any other rule in the region.
Crossing to the neighbors
Namibia borders South Africa, Botswana, Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe (at a point). For an EAT28-style route the crossings that matter are the Trans-Kalahari to Botswana, and the Caprivi / Zambezi region in the north-east toward Botswana, Zambia and Victoria Falls. Each has its own hours and procedures, and a rental vehicle needs written cross-border authority from the rental company plus its own documentation. Arrange that when you book the car, not at the border.
Where to check
The Namibia Tourism Board for Namibia, and the UK and US advisories to cross-check. Airlines sometimes enforce documentation more strictly than a government website implies.
