Qatar Visa and Entry Requirements

The short version

You land at Hamad International, clear immigration in a hall built for the traffic it gets, and are in the city shortly afterwards. Everything that decides whether you are admitted is national rather than local, and it is set out once on Qatar visa and entry requirements. What the arrival is like

For a visa free arrival you present your passport, and you may be asked for confirmed accommodation and a return or onward ticket. Entry is granted for a period recorded at the border rather than one you choose, and an extension has its own process and is not automatic. Check what you were actually given rather than what a website said before you left.

Transit, and the stopover that is not one

If you connect airside, none of the entry process applies to you. The moment you leave the airport you are entering the country properly, so a stopover is subject to exactly the same rules as a two week stay. Qatar promotes stopovers actively and there are arranged transit and hotel products. They are worth using and they exempt you from nothing.

From the airport into the city

The metro, taxis and hotel transfers all serve the airport, and which of them makes sense depends on where you are staying and how much you are carrying. See getting around Doha.

The one thing to settle before you fly

Medication. Qatar controls a wide range of substances and some ordinary prescriptions from home are controlled or prohibited here. It is a national rule and this airport is where it is enforced: travelers have been detained over medicine they carry legally at home, and it reaches transit passengers who never intended to leave the terminal. Carry everything in its original labeled packaging with the prescription, and read the Qatar travel safety guide before you pack.

What you may not bring in

Alcohol may not be brought in by visitors, and pork products, vaping equipment, drones and material considered offensive are restricted or prohibited. That list is national and it changes, so it lives on Qatar visa and entry requirements rather than here. One copy, kept current, rather than two that drift apart.
