Seychelles Visa and Entry Requirements

The short version

You do not need a visa to visit Seychelles. You do need a travel authorisation, and you must get it before you travel. On arrival you are given a visitor's permit for three months.

That distinction is the whole page. People search for a Seychelles visa, find that none exists, conclude nothing is required, and arrive without the travel authorisation. It is applied for online, in advance, and it is not something the airport can fix for you.

The visitor's permit

The permit issued on arrival runs for three months and is free for those first three months. It can be extended in three-month blocks to a maximum total stay of twelve months, provided you meet the extension requirements. There is a fee for each extension. You apply online before your current permit expires, or in person at the Immigration and Civil Status Office in Victoria.

We do not publish the extension fee here. The FCDO does not publish an amount and a number invented for a page like this one is the kind of thing that is still wrong three years later.

⚠ Passport validity is unusual, and in your favor

Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay. That is it. Most destinations in this program want six months beyond your departure date, so a passport that would be refused elsewhere may be perfectly acceptable here.

Check it anyway with your airline rather than assuming, and note that you will be denied entry without a valid travel document, or if you try to travel on a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

⚠ Two conditions people are not expecting

• Proof of travel insurance. On arrival you may be asked to show that you have insurance covering potential health costs. This is not a formality here: as a tourist you must pay for medical treatment, so the policy is the thing standing between you and the bill. See Seychelles Travel Safety Guide.
• Yellow fever. You must carry a vaccination certificate if you are arriving from a country listed as a transmission risk. This catches people routing through east Africa rather than people flying direct.

Customs and money

There are strict rules on what can be taken into and out of the country, and you must declare anything that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty. Cash above a declaration threshold must be declared on the way in. Check the current threshold with the authority itself rather than with a guidebook, because it is a number that moves. Before you book

Apply for the travel authorisation as soon as your flights are fixed, not the week before. Keep the confirmation with your passport rather than only in an inbox you may not be able to reach on arrival, and carry the insurance certificate in the same place.
