The service that issues the forecast

The Cayman Islands National Weather Service is the territory own meteorological authority. It publishes daily, weekly and aviation forecasts, current station data, radar and satellite imagery, active warnings, a list of direct hits and season summaries, and climatology for Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac separately.

That last detail matters more than it sounds. The islands are not a single point on a map, and the service treats Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac as distinct climate records. If your trip is to the Sister Islands, a Grand Cayman forecast is an approximation.

Hurricane season

The season normally runs from June to November. Official advice during it is to monitor local news, to check World Meteorological Organization weather reports for the Cayman Islands, and to follow international weather updates alongside the territory own.

The reason to use more than one source is simple: they update on different schedules, and during a developing system the gap between them is where confusion lives.

⚠ Put the alert system on your phone

The Cayman Islands Government runs the National Emergency Notification System, a free mobile app that delivers emergency alerts by email, SMS and app notification. Residents and visitors can both download it.

Install it when you arrive, not when you need it. An alert system you have to find, download and register for during an event is not an alert system. It takes a few minutes on airport wifi and it is the single most practical thing on this page.

⚠ No numbers here, and why

This guide quotes no temperature and no rainfall figure. The national weather service is the authority for both and publishes them itself; reproducing a remembered average here would add nothing except the risk of being wrong. Check the source, which is current, rather than a travel page, which is not.

Practical

• Use the Cayman Islands National Weather Service as your primary forecast, and pick the island specific record.
• Between June and November, check before you commit to boat trips and island transfers.
• Install the National Emergency Notification System app on arrival.
• Keep travel insurance that covers weather disruption, not just medical care.
