The Best Time to Visit the British Virgin Islands

The one seasonal range a government publishes.

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office records that the hurricane season in the Caribbean normally runs from June to November. That is the only seasonal window on this page with an official body behind it, and it is the reason it is the only one printed.

A season is a window in which storms form. It is not a forecast. It does not promise that a week inside it will be disrupted, and it does not promise that a week outside it cannot be. What it tells you is practical, and it is worth more than an average temperature: these are the months in which travel insurance covering disruption earns its cost, in which a flexible booking is worth what it adds to the fare, and in which you read the current official advice before you fly rather than after.

What this guide will not tell you, and why that is the honest answer.

You will find no monthly temperature here, no rainfall figure and no sea temperature. No source in this guide's register states one. The territory's tourism website answers every request with the same page, so a figure lifted from it would be a figure lifted from nothing.

That matters more than it sounds. A number invented to fill a gap reads exactly like a sourced number. It carries the same authority on the page and none of it in fact. Timing around the calendar instead.

Where a seasonal average fails, a published date does not. The Government of the Virgin Islands maintains a list of public holidays, and at the time of writing the holidays still ahead in the year included Heroes and Foreparents Day and the Commemoration of the Great March of 1949 and the Restoration of the Legislative Council.

A territory of islands, which changes the question.

The British Virgin Islands is not a single place with a single season. It is an archipelago, and the practical question is less often when to come than how you intend to move between the islands once you are here.
